FUCK the villainous swine that thought “t” would make a good variable. That fuckjob looks too much like “+”

My students always get mad when I start using v and the lower case Greek letter that looks suspiciously like v also known as nu and they of course mean different things.

Doing math and can confirm this 100%. Even reshaping it to be curly doesn’t help too much.

Also x as a symbol for multiplication and as a variable.
And using U and V as the variables when differentiating a function.

Fuck math for making me change the way I write symbols.

Here on Kinja, it looks fine!
t+x=foo();
while (t++) { bar(x, y, z); }
What’s your dev environment? If you can update the fonts, I recommend that you try
Adobe Source Code Pro
.

And yes, I know the first line is gibberish. Unless maybe that’s some form of LISP?

That’s mean.

Uh, math.

I’ll curl your tail.

The hardest time I ever had maths, was when I had a Chinese Calcus TA who wrote X’s like this )(
The whole board just looked like a bunch of damn parentheses.

()(-2)()()(^2+7)()

Very valid rant.

Yep! Just like that!

Yeah, that can just... not be near me.

Spell it out on your homework like y = 23(tee)+3. I bet your professor will get a kick outta that.

I ended up dropping the class. Took me three tries to get through calculus.

my nemesis was/is always the GD ; and : when I am writing/troubleshooting someone elses code. I HATE both characters.

My son is almost 5. He just started to do problems like 3×x=27. But he will NOT tolerate any variable other than ?. I’m with him. We need ?a, ?b etc.

Your 5-year-old is smarter than all of us.

Along the road to earning my engineering degree, I never once ran into that problem.
“l” vs. “1”, on the other hand...

I once found a variable called _. It made me wanna die. But I’m talking about programming and I think you’re talking about maths.

Well what else are you going to use for time? /s #totallyonyourside

Just wait till you start doing things that use the same letter for different things e. g. V for voltage and V for velocity. Or use completely non intuitive letters like s for distance.
![]() 10/22/2015 at 00:23 |
|
If you write it that way well, it helps keep the confusion between the variable and the multiplication sign to a minimum.
![]() 10/22/2015 at 00:24 |
|
There are ways around that, like lowercase v for velocity and uppercase V for voltage. Also velocity is usually a function like v(t).

Serif your variables bud.

Currently working with Y, Y, T, T, and f(x), F(x) in calculus. Fuck everything.

And instead replace it with the confusion of not being able to tell what the hell is what in a gadamn sea of parentheses. I should mention that his X’s were exactly like this )(, so much so that they also did not touch or cross in the middle.

Physics a huge offender for variable usage that is context specific or a Greek letter that looks like another letter if you have less than amazing handwriting.

and X in algebra, thats dumb too
